How did you use your own unique ideas in your work?
For this project I want to focus on the topic of figure drawings. But instead of using the typical medium of the pencil, I wanted to give my drawing a pop of color, so I chose chalk pastels. I wanted to give the viewer a sense of emotion with the colors I chose. So I decided to do a portrait using the warm colors with the contrasting color light blue to give it a pop. I did another portrait using the cool colors to convey a sad mood; then I did another portrait using the warm colors to depict the light values for where the light source was hitting and use the cool colors for the darker values. Then for my final portrait I used charcoal with a really bright neon light blue to add a pop of color.
Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original?
I used The Beatles "A Hard Day's Night" album cover as my source of inspiration. I had my model do different poses as The Beatles did on their album and drew them as a composition so that it would look like they were looking at each other. Then to make it my own I drew the portraits using bright color schemes and added a pop of light blue to each.
